About Mosaics

There are two variants of LEGO mosaics:

• The bricks are stacked sideways (like a brick wall)
• The pegs of the bricks face upwards (traditional)

In general, the sideways variant will appear smoother and more detailed with the use of plate pieces (1/3 the height of a brick), but complicates the pixel ratio—the side of a brick is not 1:1. I've always found this graphic helpful:

The traditional form is restricted to squares, but it's easier to translate an image with square pixels.
