Boston Public Library Courtyard

September 8, 2021 7:46 pm·Boston Public Library, Boston, MA
The courtyard of the Boston Public Library reminded me of the Roman Baths I saw in Bath, UK during my 2021 trip. It turns out Charles McKim designed the courtyard after that of the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome. The bronze statue pictured is "Bacchante and Infante Faun" by Frederick MacMonnies, a gift to the library by McKim himself. It's the centerpiece of the fountain that just underwent a restoration for half a year. They did a beautiful job replacing the tile and modifying the lighting and curvature of the water arcs.
